World Environment Day was on the 5th June, and Constance Hotels Experience planned many initiatives in the week leading up to it, with each of the hotels carrying out their own contributions to conservation as follows:

Constance Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius

- Guests and employees planted new trees in the resort
- New flowers and trees were planted by the employees along the road
- Children at the resort learned about the flora and fauna and also planted a tree
- All staff assisted with a general clean up, and new green products were tested by the housekeeping staff.
- The dive centre cleaned one of the key diving sites, and invited guests to assist them.

Constance Le Prince Maurice, Mauritius

- There was be a general clean up day at the hotel, with all staff taking part.
- A speech on carbon footprint was given to all the Heads of Departments.
- A tree was be planted by the General Manager

Constance Lemuria, Seychelles

- All guests were invited to a tree planting session.
- The staff and management undertook a clean up day with specially designed T-shirts saying ‘Keep the environment clean’.
- A leaflet went out to all guests informing them of the ways that the resort protects the environment with energy saving programmes.
- There was an exhibition on the turtles, with photographs showing the history of their conservation in the resort, and a guest speaker talking about the importance of the flora and fauna on the island.

Constance Halaveli, Maldives

- All staff members spent half an hour cleaning the beach
- The hotel launched its chef’s garden with many spices and herbs

Constance Tsarabanjina, Madagascar

- All staff assisted in cleaning an area for a new vegetable garden
- There was a training session for all staff on environmental issues, with particular focus on climate change

In addition to all of the above activities, Foundation Constance, the corporate social responsibility department, launched an Environment Club with a talk on the environment and the distribution of plants to all members of the Club. They will also give a talk in two primary schools of Poste de Flacq (Mauritius) on the importance of the environment, and give plants as gifts to some of the key institutes in the region.
